Reese to lead Sandy Creek boys basketball team
Sandy Creek has a new head coach for the boys basketball team and, because of his height, you can’t miss him. A former coach at Landmark Christian School and player and assistant coach for Georgia Tech, Reese hopes to help the Patriots stand tall in a new region and classification starting this fall.
“I enjoy coaching basketball and dealing with kids because it allows me to effect lives positively,” Reese said. “basketball can be a vehicle to teach kids to be successful in life, to work hard, handle adversity and be part of a team. That’s why I’m here.”
Coaching with Bobby Cremins and Paul Hewitt, Reese’s style could be described as a combination of both styles. The Patriots at times could be guard oriented and ready to shoot the three, but there will also be times where diverse players that can play multiple positions on the perimeter may be on the floor. Ultimately, the focus will be on building fundamentally sound players with good ball handling and conditioning.
Sandy Creek’s new region puts them up against perennial powerhouse Fayette County as well as some solid athletic programs in Carrollton, LaGrange, Alexander, Troup and Shaw among others. There will be good games all season long and Reese is looking forward to it.
“The first day we can practice is Oct. 29,” Reese said. “Right now we’re just trying to get players ready for tryouts and get organized.”
The season will be here before you know it and from the sound of it, Reese can’t wait.
