Volleyball teams head to area tournaments
Whitewater’s varsity volleyball team (42-2) had their 18-game winning streak snapped with a loss to St. Pius X last Thursday (15-25, 30-28, 25-20).
They will open the area tournament at Ola tomorrow and will host more games in the tournament on Saturday.
McIntosh (40-3) played in the Blessed Trinity tournament last weekend and won. They got wins over Westminster, Pickens, S.C., Northgate, Lambert, South Forsyth and Johns Creek. Early in the tournament, they lost to Blessed Trinity (17-25, 25-21, 15-12) but they defeated them in the tournament championship (14-25, 25-23, 15-13). The Lady Chiefs will play at Ola tomorrow and will conclude the tournament Saturday at Whitewater.
Starr’s Mill (20-23) played in the Blessed Trinity tournament and went 2-4. They beat Norcross (20-25, 25-23, 15-11) and Milton (25-22, 25-4) but lost to Johns Creek, Blythewood, S.C., South Forsyth and Blessed Trinity.
Sandy Creek (29-19) played in the Border Wars at Woodward Academy and went 2-3. The Lady Patriots lost to Walton, Hillcrest, S.C. and Ravenwood, Tenn. and beat Independence, Tenn. (25-15, 21-25, 15-7) and Page, Tenn. (25-23, 25-23). The area tournament starts Thursday in Columbus and concludes Saturday at Sandy Creek.
Landmark Christian (34-14) played four games on Saturday and won all four. They defeated Providence Christian (25-12, 21-25, 15-3), Mount Pisgah Christian (25-12, 25-13), Mill Creek (27-25, 18-25, 15-6) and Centennial (25-18, 25-15).
Landmark Christian and Our Lady of Mercy play in the area tournament starting next week.
