McIntosh wins region cross country titles

Starr’s Mill Class of 2015
On Saturday, Nov. 3, many high school cross-country reams participated in their region meets. One of these meets was the region 4-AAAAA championship, hosted by Starr’s Mill at Heritage Christian Church. Eleven teams were at the meet including local teams such as McIntosh, Whitewater, and Starr’s Mill. This was the most important race of the year so far because only the top four male and female teams advanced to the state meet.
This elimination aspect along with perfect running weather and fierce competition led to fast times all around with many runners setting personal records.
Fayette County schools have historically dominated the sport of cross-country. McIntosh has had some of the strongest teams in the state over the past few years. This year they are ranked as the number one team in Class AAAAA in the state for boys and girls and their boys are first out of all divisions. They fulfilled expectations by winning both the boys and girls varsity races. Starr’s Mill took second in the boys race and third in the girls race to advance both teams to state, while Whitewater’s girls team came in second clinching a spot at state. Their boys came close to advancing with a sixth place finish.
The state meet will take place Saturday, Nov. 10 in Carrollton. Many teams ran the state preview meet in Carrollton earlier this year and should be ready to compete at state.
