Basketball teams pick up wins

The basketball season is still young but local teams are trying to pile on the wins, build team chemistry and finish the year strong.

Whitewater’s boys improved to 4-2 with recent wins over Union Grove (76-50) and Sandy Creek (40-39). Against Union Grove, senior guard Junaid Olusesi turned in another sensational performance with 18 points 10 rebounds and four assists. Philip Cofer added 17 points and five rebounds and Justin Simpson-James had nine points and 11 rebounds. Against Sandy Creek, Darius Sharpe finished with eight points, Robbie Harlfinger had nine and Olusesi put in eight points with six rebounds and four assists.

The Lady Cats (3-2) beat Union Grove 34-29 and lost to Sandy Creek 63-16.

Whitewater will play at Forest Park tomorrow and will play at Our Lady of Mercy Saturday.
Sandy Creek is scheduled to play at Newnan on Friday. Fayette County’s boys and girls will be off until Saturday when they play at Newnan.

McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (4-1) bounced back from a 29-21 loss to Forest Park last Tuesday to defeat Mt. Zion, Jonesboro 59-22. Gabby Seiler led McIntosh with 22 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Amanda Lindsey chipped in 10 points, Cassidy Williams added nine points and Abby Birrell had eight points, 11 rebounds and eight deflections. The boys improved to 3-3. The beat Forest Park 45-22 and outlasted Mt. Zion, Jonesboro 54-51. McIntosh will play at Ola on Friday and will host New Manchester on Saturday.

Starr’s Mill’s boys have won four games in a row. The Panthers (4-2) beat Ola 62-32 last Friday and defeated Johns Creek 49-31 on Saturday. The Lady Panthers (5-0) beat Ola 54-9. Starr’s Mill will play at Drew on Friday.
