Wrestling teams do well at area duals, holiday tournaments

The wrestling season is going at full tilt and area teams are showing strength.

Starr’s Mill placed fourth in the area duals and McIntosh placed sixth, while Whitewater placed second. The Wildcats are headed to the state duals this week in Macon.

Fayette County placed third in the 5-AAAA duals behind Alexander and Carrollton and ahead of Troup. The Tigers beat Troup twice and topped Sandy Creek 61-16 after losing to Carrollton 51-15.

In other wrestling action, Landmark placed third in their area duals tournament over the weekend. They defeated Brookstone 42-24, First Presbyterian Day 48-24 and Georgia Military Academy 52-20. 

Fayette County hosted their annual Christmas Classic over the break and placed fourth behind Hewitt-Trussville, North Forsyth and Loganville. Starr’s Mill placed ninth, McIntosh took 15th and Sandy Creek finished 24th. Placers for those teams were:
1st - Starr’s Mill’s Alex Ashley (285); 2nd - Fayette County’s Caleb Sellers (106) and Christian Ingalls (220) and Starr’s Mill’s Luke Runyan (170); 3rd - Starr’s Mill’s Austin Gilbert (138) and Fayette County’s Corey Cleveland (182); 4th - Fayette County’s Henry Sellers (120) and McIntosh’s Joseph Kelly (182) and Dijon Lowery (220); 5th - Fayette County’s Kyle Leinberger (170) and 6th - Fayette County’s Devyn Wash.
