Final weekend of regular season for high school baseball
Sandy Creek’s varsity baseball team (17-5) stayed hot with an 11-6 win over Mays on Wednesday.
The win was their sixth in a row heading into the regular season finale with Northgate last night after the paper went to press. Against Mays, Arthur Owens went 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs and a home run, while Chris Triplett collected three hits and Russell Bonner and Mat Evans each had two. Travis Humber earned the win, while Cody Sweeney and Evans each pitched an inning of relief.
The Patriots will be the third seed from the sub-region (5A-AAAA) and will play a series against the second seed from the other subregion (5B-AAAA) next Wednesday.
Starr’s Mill’s Panthers (15-6) closed out the regular season on a strong note as well. The Panthers won three games in a row and shutout Douglas County 15-0 in the final game of the regular season. Starr’s Mill is the second seed from the sub-region and will host the third seed from 5B-AAAA next Wednesday.
Whitewater (15-6) will be the fourth seed from the sub-region and will play at the top seed from region 5B-AAAA next Wednesday. The Wildcats closes out the regular season with two straight wins. They beat Lithia Springs on Wednesday 14-3 in six innings.
McIntosh (10-10) snapped a two game losing streak with a 13-0 win over Tri-Cities on Wednesday. The Chiefs took on Fayette County last night and will play at LaGrange on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to close out the season.
Fayette County (8-11) has won two in a row, snapping a five game losing streak. The Tigers beat Banneker 15-0 on Wednesday and defeated Tri-Cities 9-2 on Thursday. Their game with McIntosh last night was their final game of the year.
Landmark Christian (12-6-1) has lost two games in a row. The War Eagles lost to Holy Innocents on Tuesday 7-3 and played at Whitefield Academy last night after the paper went to press. Landmark will host North Cobb Christian on Monday and will play at Our Lady of Mercy on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
The Bobcats snapped a nine game losing streak with a 13-10 win over Walker on Thursday. The win was the first region win for Our Lady of Mercy this season. The Bobcats will close out the season with two home games - Landmark on Tuesday and Mt. Paran on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
