There's still a lot of baseball to be played but teams are making some moves in the standings.
Think of the last few weeks of the soccer season as a good meal. If the soccer games between Whitewater and Starr’s Mill were the appetizer, last Friday’s games between Whitewater and McIntosh were the main course, making tomorrow’s games between McIntosh and Starr’s Mill a delectable dessert that puts the cap on an awesome experience.
Sandy Creek held the Patriot Invitational on Saturday and local teams performed very well. On the girls side, Whitewater took second, ahead of McIntosh in third, Sandy Creek in eighth and Fayette County in 10th.
McIntosh’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams defeated East Coweta on Friday.
Sandy Creek took on Starr’s Mill on Monday afternoon and won 6-0. It was the second straight game that the Panthers had been held to no runs.
Starr’s Mill’s varsity boys soccer team (4-0-1) picked up two more wins this week, defeating East Coweta 4-1 on Wednesday and beating Lithia Springs 4-2 on Thursday.
McIntosh goalkeeper Josh Slepicka has three shutouts thus far this season.
This area is known for its soccer and a number of teams are off to a solid start.
Sandy Creek’s varsity baseball team has started the season with two straight wins.
One local wrestler captured a state title this weekend at the Georgia High School wrestling championships - Sandy Creek’s Derek Wojcik, a state champ last year as well.
