The region 5-AAAA tournament starts tonight and is set to conclude Thursday evening at Villa Rica High School.
As the 2009 high school volleyball season nears it’s end, and the state playoffs loom on the horizon, the defending state champion Lady Patriots of Sandy Creek have been busy adding hard-fought wins to their already stellar record.
As sub-region play started for region 5-A AAAA, the county teams wanted to win and set the pace to make a run for a state playoff bid. The mission was accomplished for several teams.
Whitewater’s Lady Wildcat varsity softball team (22-1) picked up a few more wins last week.
McIntosh’s boys won the Sandy Creek Fall Classic, while the Patriots placed sixth.

Whitewater went 5-1 at the Lovett Block Party Invitational getting wins over Athens Academy (25-18, 25-22), South Forsyth (25-18, 25-17), Milton (25-15, 25-18), Columbus (25-18, 15-25, 25-20) and Westminster (25-16, 25-15) before losing to Pope.
Landmark Christian traveled to take on their local rivals, the Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats, on Friday. The Bobcats have never defeated the War Eagles in football, but the schools do play competitively in nearly every other sport.
